On the afternoon of December 6, Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-Cheng welcomed a delegation from Japan’s Miyagi Association of City Mayors, marking the association’s first official visit to Taoyuan. Mayor Chang recalled leading a delegation to Japan in August 2025, where he visited Miyagi Prefecture, met with the governor, and engaged in meaningful exchanges with several local mayors. He said the warm hospitality shown by the Japanese side left a lasting impression on the Taoyuan delegation. Mayor Chang expressed his sincere appreciation for the visiting delegation’s decision to include Taoyuan in their busy Taiwan itinerary, and he voiced hope for continued collaboration and deepening ties between the two regions.
Mayor Chang also highlighted recent progress in Taoyuan’s ties with cities in Miyagi. In August 2025, Taoyuan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Natori City and Iwanuma City to strengthen cooperation in tourism and industrial development. He further noted that just last month, Taoyuan hosted the Asia Professional Baseball Exchange Series, featuring Taiwan’s Rakuten Monkeys, Japan’s Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, and Korea’s KT Wiz. The event delivered thrilling matchups for fans and marked a new chapter in professional baseball exchanges among Taiwan, Japan, and Korea.
As a gesture of friendship and goodwill, Mayor Chang presented the Miyagi delegation with a set of specially selected commemorative gifts, including a Taoyuan City Government executive vest, a Tao & Yuango x Rakuten Monkeys plush cheering doll, and a “Taoyuan Blessing Tea” gift set—all carefully chosen to reflect the city’s warm welcome and growing friendship with Miyagi.
